Hello to any random people who have stumbled upon this. My name is Jared Lynem. I'm a software developer; I live in Grand Rapids, MI; I am married to the best girl in the world; and we have spawned a lovely 130 lb Newfoundland named Clapton. I love music, especially classical; and my favorite composer is probably Verdi (thus the name of the blog). I am subscribed to Fark and Digg using the handle I_Love_Verdi, so you may run across one or two of my forum posts if you frequent those bastions of information.
I'm traveling to Malaysia on the Fourth of January, and I will be there for almost exactly a month. I will be working on a large software project for my employer, so I am not paying for my own expenses, nor will I be at liberty to explore as much as I would were I on vacation. That said, I will still have time to take some pictures and hopefully garner some stories worth telling. This blog will serve as a way to distribute this information and update my friends with Melville-esque tales of the Orient. Once the trip is over, I may continue to use this space as a more traditional weblog.
The hotel I will be staying at is the Cyberview Lodge in Cyberjaya, a high-tech suburb of Kuala Lumpur (known from now on as KL, which is what everyone at work who's been there before calls it). The hotel itself is apparently a 5-star resort, and if even half of what the website says about it turns out to be accurate, I will be living in very nice quarters for the duration of my trip.
