Since the 4 GB SD card made it possible, I've made the decision to start shooting RAW. RAW is the direct sensor data from the camera, without effects processing or compression. Later, on the computer, you can apply any of the camera's controls (and more) to the RAW data and tailor the photo to your needs. These two photos are not modified in Picasa at all; the only refining I've done (and not a great job, admittedly) is in the raw processing control.
