My heart pumps battery acid

I've never had even an average amount of physical stamina. Cardio exercise for me is torture. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the endorphin rush I get after the workout is over, but during those 30 minutes I need to be distracted from the signals my brain is receiving.

I guess that's one of the reasons running outside is so difficult. Believe it or not it is actually more difficult to block out feelings of tiredness or breathlessness when I have to pay attention to my surroundings. When I am on the treadmill I can put myself in a quasi-meditative state and stay on rhythm (mostly) the whole way.

Another reason is, of course, the hills. They work muscles in different ways and make for a more intense workout if you're used to just the treadmill with no incline.

The biggest thing for me though is allergies. Running outside involves taking deep, enormous breaths of air filled with pollen, dust, mold, etc. which cause my lungs and sinuses to protest. Of course, when my lungs tighten up and my sinuses are stuffed, I can't breathe as much oxygen and my performance is affected. The gym offers an environment with significantly fewer allergens, allows me an easier time working out and thus I feel better.

I do like the relaxation and energy level that running brings, and to some degree I'm attracted to how difficult it is for me. I will keep at it, if not only for myself then also for Team Aardvark. Any tips on training or making the experience more bearable are appreciated.
