Anyone who is informed enough to have an opinion on the subject will agree with me: first class is the only way to fly. Witness the spread set out before me on our flight to LA today:

The food was awesome, the drinks were free, and the flight attendant filled my wine glass of her own accord, as though her goal were to knock me out for the duration. Oh, and that's Mythbusters on the TV. Classy.
Flying to LA is always nice because the normal route out of Grand Rapids or Chicago passes over the Grand Canyon and Zion National Park. We didn't get a great view of the latter (and I forgot to get my camera out for the former), but this was the view from 36,000 feet (and -58 degrees Fahrenheit outside temperature):

Arriving in LA, we realized that we hadn't examined the tickets closely, and our layover is actually close to 12 hours. Sitting around in the airport for half a day sucks, so we wanted to get to a lounge or some place where we could sit quietly in nice chairs and relax. The problem is that Malaysian Air doesn't even have a check-in desk until 7:30 PM; this left us 7 hours to sit around, since the Delta Crown Room (which Paul Berman has a membership to) is behind security. Normally you cannot get past security without a boarding pass, but luckily Paul was able to obtain gate passes from the Delta desk. That leaves me, your weary traveler, resting comfortably in a fine upholstered chair drinking Crown Royal and watching the Titans/Chargers game. Ah, LA: The City of Angels.
